Our purpose
Amaroo Foundation exists to transform young lives by supporting carefully selected local, national, and international programs that enhance the development and wellbeing of children and young people.

At Amaroo Foundation, we believe that creating a better world starts with nurturing young futures.
Our purpose is to ensure that child and young person, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity and access to reach their full potential.
Every two years, we select three exceptional charity partner programs or initiatives — one local, one national, and one international — each addressing a critical area of need in youth education and empowerment.
Our approach recognises that challenges facing young people exist across diverse social, economic, and geographic contexts. By supporting initiatives at multiple levels, we create a comprehensive impact that reaches children and young people where support is most needed, amplifying positive change in communities near and far.

Attending school matters
Early and consistent school attendance has been shown to significantly shape children's futures, positively impacting their academic achievement, social development, and economic prospects.
Academic Achievement: Research indicates that children who attend school regularly in their early years are more likely to achieve higher academic standards later in life. For example, primary school students with near-perfect attendance are 30% more likely to meet expected standards in reading, writing, and math compared to those with lower attendance rates.
Long-Term Earnings: Persistent absenteeism during secondary school can lead to a significant reduction in future earnings. Studies show that students who miss school frequently could earn $20,000 less by age 28 compared to peers with consistent attendance.
Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Development: Early childhood education programs have been linked to improved cognitive skills, such as problem-solving and critical thinking, as well as non-cognitive skills like social interaction and emotional regulation.
Disadvantaged Groups: High-quality early education has the greatest impact on disadvantaged children, helping to close gaps in educational outcomes, providing a foundation for lifelong success.
Attendance Rates: In Australia, students in Years 1-10 attend school 92% of the time on average, but boosting attendance rates further, especially among vulnerable groups, remains a critical goal.

Thinking beyond the classroom
We know that the power of education goes far beyond traditional classroom learning or curriculum. For children and young people to thrive academically, they first need strong foundations across all dimensions of their wellbeing.
Our supported programs often interface with the education system, but address issues like mental health support, developing resilience, fostering positive relationships, reducing barriers to access, or creating safe environments where young people can thrive.
By viewing the role of education through a holistic lens, we're helping create the conditions for children and young people to flourish across local, national, and international contexts.
